The Re-Inauguration of Low Profile @ APT (MLK Jr. & Obama on my mind) - January 19 2009
January 23, 2009 06:35 PM PST
On the MLK Jr's holiday and on the eve of Barack Obama's inauguration, the opening night of Low Profile (going on since the late 90s) went down with a room full of friends and family. There's a myriad of moods here - my freestyle and free associative DJing at its best. Imperfectly perfect (needle jumps a couple of times) with a couple of nods toward Dr. King & President Obama that drop in when you may least expect them. Check for sounds from The Roots, Stevie Wonder, Black Moon, MGMT, MIA, Jay-Z, Q-Tip, The Nextmen, Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers, Lenny Kravitz, Mr. Scruff, Common, Recloose, Femi Kuti, Yo Majesty, The Dynamics, Groove Armada, Prince, Fela Kuti, Mr. V, Fertile Ground & the last tune by Solagne Knowles went out to the women in the house who "Decided" on Obama! |
Podcast SummaryThere is a method to the magic in the way Qool DJ Marv presents and plays music. He tunes into the atmosphere of the venue and the energy of the people, and then he blends what he sees with what he hears. Intertwining many styles for many faces from many places, Qool DJ Marv captivates you with his blend. The fluid flow and continuously ascending momentum of his wide-ranging sets is inviting, hypnotic, and breathtaking. Qool DJ Marv crafts an unforgettable feel good, get down party where everyone in the room will hear something that they enjoy. It’s as if he knew you were coming.
