Adventures in Instrumental Qoolout - Live @ Mr Jones All Night - Recorded December 6th 2008
March 24, 2009 01:54 PM PDT
Lesley Bernard, owner of NYC soul stalwart Tillman's, opened a new place this past winter called Mr. Jones on 14th Street near 2nd Avenue in the East Village. A beautiful lounge that extends the Tillman's design into a spacious Far East flavored place for your rendevous. Read more about Mr. Jones here: http://www.mrjonesnyc.com/ I love Lesley because he has a peculiar and steadfast mind when it comes to the sound of his venues. At Mr. Jones, he spoke of a low volume yet warm and embracing sound that primarily featured instrumentals. The rhythms are more of a blanket than a bludgeoning hammer. Beautifully styled venues are enhanced by beautifully creative music. Lesley & I met and early on at Mr. Jones his vision included what you will hear in this epic mix that travels for esoteric down tempo spaced out jazzy funky electronica to sultry deep house. Since I've played this set, Lesley has changed the music policy to, "I want the DJ to play like [he's] playing records at home [to himself]" I haven't done that set yet but when I do Enjoy the sounds friends. |
Podcast SummaryThere is a method to the magic in the way Qool DJ Marv presents and plays music. He tunes into the atmosphere of the venue and the energy of the people, and then he blends what he sees with what he hears. Intertwining many styles for many faces from many places, Qool DJ Marv captivates you with his blend. The fluid flow and continuously ascending momentum of his wide-ranging sets is inviting, hypnotic, and breathtaking. Qool DJ Marv crafts an unforgettable feel good, get down party where everyone in the room will hear something that they enjoy. It’s as if he knew you were coming.
