A very good friend that I've known for 20 years ran in the November 2010 1/2 marathon in Philadelphia. A little while ago he nudged me to put together something that he could listen to while doing the do.

He's a Philly resident and I'm a Philly native so when he suggested that it feature (mostly) the music of Philadelphia International Records, I thought that this was a good opportunity to go back to my roots. http://www.gamble-huffmusic.com/home2/
This was an easy yes because way back when Dewey GAVE me a few hundred records and many of those have been the core of my groove, disco, boogie sets for years. Dewey once gave me the best advice when I was a young changing-records-too-fast DJ. Those classic records were made as complete pieces with much of the musical intensity and virtuosity happening after the 1st and 2nd verses and choruses. He's see me about to mix something else in and he'd say "HOLD UP - YOU GOT TO LET THAT ROLL - THAT"S THE PART RIGHT THERE."
Disco's got funky breaks too.
This is a selector set. My U.K. aficionados understand this. Start the record and let it play, no mixes or blends. Mostly vinyls, but a few CDs and mp3 cuts on here too - you'll notice subtle changes in fidelity. That fuzz, that's record crackle btw.
Eventually I will revisit these selections and more and do my deconstruct reconstruct rearranging like Thelonious Monk style interpretations and re-present these mixed. Something like these projects:

I inhale, and those are what I puff.
Good luck Dewey and thank you. This was great to spend time on.
And you, press play and 4 hours of your life breezes by and along the way, a whole lot of uplift.

I know I know, where's this and where's that? This mix is all about motivation + a couple of between me & Dewey's (like the ROCKY!). Omissions are where you come in. Make your mix and let me know when you do. Paying attention to what's missing initially reads negative, however, flip the script and realize that if you get to work, and create something that no one has, that's well compiled, sequenced, & executed...you will make a name for yourself and might even be recognized as one of the best in the world.
Do you know how many people are in this world? Doing this?
It's no abracadabra madness - pure intellect, ingenuity, and industrious concentration has paved this path.
Some mixes take months. No one pays me to do 99% of my mixes. The time I give to research & absorption so I can translate into a smooth listening experience 4u is valuable. Think 'lucky guy' noticing my moves? Perhaps. I give my all, driven by the nature of my spirit, & the world opens to me. I found my skill, added my will, & it's giving me a thrill ride through life.
You get what you give.
